The University as an Experience Ecosystem

Designing connected journeys for students, parents, faculty, administrators and partners.

A university experience doesn’t begin in the classroom.

It starts much earlier, perhaps with the first visit to a website or the first interaction during admissions, and continues long after graduation.

Yet institutions often design these experiences function by function.

Students don’t experience a university that way.

One journey, many touchpoints

Discovery, admissions, academics, finance, housing, student services, careers and alumni engagement may sit in different parts of an institution. For the student, they form one continuous experience.

An ecosystem beyond students

Faculty, parents, administrators, leadership and external partners all interact with the institution. Friction between those interactions ultimately becomes part of the student experience too.

Technology should connect, not complicate

Technology can connect the ecosystem, but technology alone doesn’t create the experience. The real shift happens when institutions stop designing individual transactions and start designing connected journeys.

Students may interact with departments, systems and processes, but what they remember is one university experience.
